About the middle of March 2011, I “Googled’ the name Hobinstock, as I do from time to time. Among many results that I had come across before, was a link to an Excel file that stated that Joseph Hobinstock was convicted of larceny in Melbourne 1856. This, of course, was such a shock to come across mainly because I was totally unaware that Joseph had any connection with Australia at all. So it was my mission then to find out about this new information. I hired a researcher in Melboure as this was the only way to physically ‘pick-up’ the photocopies of the original files. So please find all the details belows as I have tried to scan the photocopies as best I can for the best reproduction.
